The Lodge is located within the grounds of Brantwood on the eastern shore of Coniston Water. Brantwood is a historic house which was once the home of John Ruskin, a famous Victorian writer, artist and social reformer, and is now open as a museum showcasing Ruskin’s life and work.
Within Brantwood’s sprawling grounds you’ll find a cafe, extensive gardens, woodland trails and lake access to the shores of Coniston Water. And wherever you are in The Lodge or in the grounds, you can enjoy simply breath-taking views of the lake and Lake District mountains beyond.
The Lodge itself was built by John Ruskin in 1872 and now offers an unrivalled retreat for up to 8 people. Guests at The Lodge have free access both to Brantwood house, its beautiful gardens and lake shore for the duration of their stay. On your doorstep at The Lodge are an array of footpaths, cycle ways, and water-based activities. You can launch kayaks, canoes, paddle-boards or small sailing dinghies directly from Brantwood’s shore, and embark on unforgettable adventures on the lake.
And after Brantwood closes to the public at 4pm, guests have the spectacular gardens and grounds to themselves – a truly special privilege and one which will ensure your stay at The Lodge provides memories to treasure forever.
