A much loved Cumbrian gastropub in a gloriously remote hilltop location between Ambleside and Hawkshead. The Drunken Duck serves elevated pub food alongside ales from its own on site Barngates Brewery, it’s a true Lake District institution.
What to Expect
The menu goes well beyond standard pub fare, with dishes like celeriac and hazelnut kiev and venison loin sitting alongside hearty Sunday roasts. The Barngates ales brewed on site are excellent, and the setting, surrounded by fells with no neighbours in sight, is hard to beat.
The Food & Drink
The Barngates Brewery operates right on-site, producing a rotating selection of ales that perfectly complement the food. The kitchen uses local suppliers and seasonal produce, and the menu changes regularly. Sunday roasts are a particular highlight, drawing locals and visitors alike.
