1. Another Place, The Lake
Another Place, The Lake is one of our favourite Lake District dog friendly hotels for exploring the outdoors since it sits right on Ullswater shore.
You’ll find yourself in a prime position for hiking, and you can access many routes from the hotel’s front door. Within five miles, you’ve got Aira Force waterfall, Brother’s Water, and Hallin Fell. If you’re after more of a challenge, Place Fell and Coledale Horseshoe are a short drive away.
After a day out exploring, we found the Living Space to be the perfect spot to relax and grab a bite to eat – and your furry friend is welcome to join!
Fee: You can bring up to two dogs per room, charged at £15 per night for the first dog and £5 per night for the second.
2. Daffodil Hotel & Spa
If you’re planning a stay in Grasmere, the Daffodil Hotel & Spa is our top choice, especially if you’re looking for Lake District dog friendly hotels that offer a bit more luxury.
You’ll find yourself within easy reach of Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn, while Rydal Cave is just a thirty-minute walk away. From here, you can continue on to Loughrigg Fell for stunning views across Grasmere Lake and village.
After a day on the fells, it’s time for you and your pup to relax and refuel. You don’t have complete freedom to wander the hotel with your pooch, but the Lounge & Lobby Bar is dog friendly, or there are plenty of dog friendly places to eat in the Lake District nearby.

3. Cragwood Country House
If you’re looking for a hotel that’s less restrictive about where you can take your pup, we’d recommend Cragwood Country House. Each dog friendly room includes a welcome pack with treats, bowls, and waste bags, so you feel at home.
You and your four-legged friend can visit the lounge and bar areas, sample the fine dining menu, and go for afternoon tea. The hotel even offers a doggy afternoon tea for £10 which includes sausage-style treats and an iced pupcake.
Sprawling lawns and woodlands surround the hotel and you’ve easy access to Lake Windermere, so your pooch has tons of space to roam around. For walks, you’ll find lovely meadow trails at Brockhole and Orrest Head Fell a short drive away.
Fee: You can bring one dog per room, and it’s one of the only Lake District hotels where dogs are welcome for free!
4. Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa
If you’re looking to bag some Wainwrights with your furry friend, Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa makes a perfect base. It puts you close to Skiddaw, Catbells, and Helvellyn, while Dodd Wood and Whinlatter Forest offer more gentle walking trails.
There’s acres and acres of private woodland to explore, so you can enjoy a decent stroll without leaving the grounds. Plus, each room comes with a dog bed, cushion, treats, and waste bags – and you might even snag a ground-floor room with direct garden access.
After all that time outdoors, we enjoyed our visit to the Hall Lounge where you can relax and warm up by the fire. As well as human food, you’ll find dog treats, fresh water, and even a doggy hairdryer.

5. Rothay Manor
Rothay Manor is a boutique hotel with four dog friendly rooms. We’d recommend this one if you’re after something a bit fancier but still need quick access to best-loved walks.
You can walk up Wansfell Pike and Loughrigg Fell directly from the hotel (since it’s ten minutes from Ambleside village). Rydal Cave and The Coffin Route are also close by if you’re looking for more gentle loops. And, there’s even a dog washroom to rinse off muddy paws!
Dogs are also welcome in the Drawing Room and Brathay Room, so you don’t need to leave your pooch behind when it’s time for dinner. The fee covers George Barclay dog beds, towels, bowls, treats, and waste bags.
Fee: £25 per dog per night (no additional cost after three nights)
6. Langdale Chase
Langdale Chase is one of our most luxurious pet friendly hotels in the Lake District. It’s a restored Victorian country house, along Windermere lakeshore, with views to die for.
Dog friendly rooms come with easy access to immaculate gardens and lakeshore, while the doggy bath makes it easy to clean up after muddy walks. Along with a comfy dog bed, our room included towels, dog bowls, and home-made treats which was a nice surprise.
We even found a dedicated dog menu which included things like steak, turkey breast, and pawsome stew!
Fee: The hotel welcomes up to two dogs per room, at £35 per dog per stay.
